Situation

A road and bridge contractor required an application to protect the floors of their Tri-Axle dump trucks from extreme impact, abrasion and corrosion. These trucks were consistently exposed to extreme impact and abrasion from cement, rocks and gravel. The floors of the trucks were especially susceptible needing to be replaced every four to five years at a minimum cost of $3,000. Due to the fact the company owns at least 25 dump trucks, having to replace the floors was becoming increasingly costly.

It was mandatory that the product used to protect the floors would be able to withstand the constant extreme abuse of the construction sites while living up to the client’s image requirements. They also needed the solution to be time efficient preventing extensive downtime.

Procedure

Recommended prep for this application is sandblasting or aggressive etching, followed by SF-515 primer. The CU-400 is then poured onto the floor of the truck. No masking or taping is needed to pour the CU-400.

Approximately 192 lbs of CU-400 was used on 97.5 feet of floor. The project required approximately a half a day to complete.

Solution

LINE-X® CU-400 protective coating was used to protect the floor of the dump truck. The CU-400 provided the stronger protection for extreme impact and abrasion resistance, was smooth enough to allow the construction materials to dump easily, and can be recoated as needed without having to replace the floor, perfect for commercial applications.

Results

The LINE-X CU-400 not only protected the floor of the Tri-Axle dump truck from extreme impact and abrasion, but also provided the smooth texture needed to allow the construction materials to dump easily out of the truck allowing quicker dumps. Most importantly, the CU-400 can be easily recoated as needed without having to replace the floor and the entire job was completed in less than a day.

The added strength of CU-400 combined with its smooth surface made it an ideal product for this industrial application.
